Frequently Asked Questions

When and where do we play?

We host Dutch and English D&D sessions every Wednesday and each 3rd Saturday of the month. Every other Wednesday we will have a few tables running a rerun session of our Main adventure, and a few tables running whatever our DMs want to prepare. We meet at The Worlds' End Comics (WEC), located at Ketelvest 51 in Gent at 19h in the evening and will play until around 23h. Events will be posted on Discord and Facebook with a registration form.

What do I need for a session?

We provide everything you don’t, but here’s the list:

  • Pencil/pen
  • Character sheet
  • Polyhedral dice set (can be borrowed at the table or purchased from the WEC)
  • ±7 euro to purchase 2-3 beverages
What can I use to make a character?

We allow all books published by Wizards of the Coast, from which you can combine all player options. You can use a standard array or point-buy to determine your stats; or you can roll your stats at the table if your Dungeon Master allows it. The level of your character will be posted on the event description of every session.

NOTE: Unless specified by DM we will be using the 2014 rulebook for the campaigns this year.

Which books are allowed?

All those that contain races, classes and background options for player characters are allowed. The most commonly used books in character creation are the Player’s Handbook, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, and Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse.

The following exceptions apply:

  • Guildmaster’s Guide to Ravnica (Backgrounds not allowed)
  • Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos (Backgrounds and Silvery Barbs not allowed)
Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants has two backgrounds that get a free feat. Isn't that unbalanced?

You're absolutely right! The extra feat makes these two backgrounds a stronger choice. To balance this, we are giving every player who starts in the new campaign (Out of the Abyss) the choice between one of the four following feats, regardless of which background they have:

Feat: HealerLearn More
Feat: Dungeon DelverLearn More
Feat: ToughLearn More
Feat: SkilledLearn More
Do we get any extra gear at higher level?

Yes, at level 8. Before level 8 you use your class and background's starting equipment. Anything you acquire during play, you get to keep until lost, exchanged or campaign end.

Upon reaching level 8 or whenever you play a new character that starts at level 8 or higher, you gain 2000 gold pieces (for spell components with a gold cost and in-game bribery) and can select any items from the following list for free (See the Equipment chapter in the Player's Handbook for tables and descriptions):
All nonmagical weapons and armor
All gear including up to 3 Potions of Healing
All tools you are proficient with (except vehicles)
No mounts or vehicles unless provided as story reward
All trinkets (except number 44 due to the 'Vasdoodle Incident' of 2018)

Additionally, you may choose one of the following magic items:

  • +1 Weapon that you are proficient with
  • +1 Shield if proficient
  • +1 Armor that you are proficient with
  • +1 Rod of the Pact Keeper
  • +1 Wand of the War Mage
  • +1 All-purpose Tool (TCE - Tasha's Cauldron of Everything)
  • +1 Amulet of the Devout (TCE)
  • +1 Arcane Grimoire (TCE)
  • +1 Bloodwell Vial (TCE)
  • +1 Moon Sickle (TCE)
  • +1 Rhythm-maker’s Drum (TCE)
  • +1 Wraps of Unarmed Prowess (BoMT - Book of Many Things)
  • Bag of holding
  • Bracers of Defense

Consider all these items free of charge, and keep your purchases within reason. DM has final say over what is and isn't allowed.

What if I don't have any time to make a Character sheet?

You can print a pregen from DnD Beyond.

What is this year's campaign?

This year we play Out of the Abyss with a custom twist! Spooky!

I want to become a Dungeon Master or I have other questions, who can I contact?

You can ask in our Facebook group, or message Bram Verlez, Solas, or Tanner Rawlings on Discord (They can be found in the Bugbear and High Overtroll Roles in the sidebar).

What do I do if I have an issue with another player or Dungeon Master?

Our most important priority is that everyone has fun and feels welcome. If you have any issues, feel free to approach Bram, Solas, or Tanner Rawlings during a session. You can also send any of them a quick message on Discord or Facebook. We love feedback, and we want to do whatever it takes to help you with any troubles or problems.

Can I sit at <DM name>'s table? Their signup was full!

If a DM has a full signup, you may request them in the notes. We make an effort to keep groups who wish to play together together if possible.

Can I sit with my friends?

If you wish to sit with your friends it is best to sign up early and together and all select the same DM. Additionally, mention in your Notes every person you wish to sit with. With larger groups it becomes more difficult for us to arrange this, especially if individuals sign up for the wrong dm, or very late.

I put in the incorrect information/selected the wrong DM on my signup. Can this be fixed?

Although it is best to ensure your info is correct before submitting, if there is an error you can inform us (Meaning, if possible, Solas) of it and we will take it into account when arranging the tables.

I am now unable to make it, can you remove me?

We understand that sometimes plans change. If for any reason you will no longer be attending please inform us at the soonest convenience so that we can allow another player to join for the week. Thank you

Do you have questions about table arrangements? Is something incorrect in your sign up form?

If either of these are what you need please gather these things:

  • Your Name
  • The names of anyone else involved (Fellow players or DM's)
  • Your general request

Message Solas With this information, and it will be looked into. Please keep in mind that we must respect the wishes of all participants, so not every request is possible. Also, if you have special needs or requests please first put them in the notes of your sign up form, as contacting Solas like this is supposed to be only a backup.
